Putin congratulates Trump, expresses readiness for renewed U.S.-Russia dialogue

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Donald Trump on his imminent inauguration as the 47th president of the United States and expressed Russia’s willingness to resume direct communication with the White House. Speaking at a Russian Security Council meeting, Putin highlighted Trump’s commitment to avoiding a Third World War and praised his “convincing” election victory and resilience during a challenging campaign.

Putin emphasized Russia’s openness to dialogue with the new U.S. administration, noting that previous disruptions in relations were caused by the outgoing administration. He called for cooperation based on equality and mutual respect, stressing the importance of collaboration on global stability, strategic security, and resolving the Ukrainian conflict. Putin underscored the need for a lasting peace in Ukraine that respects the interests of all regional communities, criticizing NATO’s military expansion near Russia’s borders as a root cause of the crisis.

The Kremlin also indicated its readiness to work with Trump’s team once they take office. Presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov stated that Moscow is awaiting the new administration’s initiatives, emphasizing that Russia remains committed to protecting its national interests, including those tied to its ongoing military operations.
