Carmen de la Rosa advocates for immigrant rights amid Trump administration policies

New York.- Carmen de la Rosa, councilwoman for Upper Manhattan, New York, expressed concerns over the impact of the new Donald Trump administration’s policies, particularly on immigration. De la Rosa noted that while many Dominicans in New York are in the process of becoming citizens, a significant number remain undocumented, heightening fears about potential ICE intervention in local communities.

To protect immigrants, de la Rosa highlighted ongoing efforts at both state and local levels, including advocating for New York to become a sanctuary state where local authorities do not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. She also pointed to workshops in her district that educate immigrants about their rights and legal representation in deportation cases.

De la Rosa discussed the challenges faced by immigrants, particularly in industries like construction, hotels, and supermarkets, which often employ undocumented workers. She expressed concern over Trump’s executive orders, particularly those related to border control and deportation policies. While she acknowledged the possibility of Trump attempting to change the Constitution to end birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants, she argued that such a radical change would be difficult and harmful to millions of New Yorkers.

In her interview, de la Rosa also addressed the broader impact of Trump’s policies on diverse communities, including immigrants, women, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Despite the challenges, she remained optimistic about the ability of communities to defend their rights.

Thankfully Donald Trump has also decided to cancell birthrite citizenship in the USA. Maybe he will follow the Dominican’s example and also backdate it retroactively to1929. Let the mass deportations back to the DR begin.. 15000 a week is a great start .God bless Donald Trump

As I’m sure you know, the vast majority of illegal migrants in the US come from Mexico, Central America, and South America. Dominicans make up a very small minority of the illegal immigrant pool. But keep on dreaming you Haitian troll, tell your compatriots in the US to behave and to stop eating people’s cats and dogs so Mr. Trump doesn’t come for them.

Dave, you are correct. However, as of 2019, it is estimated that there are 164,000 unauthorized Dominicans in the U.S., and it would be fair to say that number has grown since then. This happens for many reasons, but ultimately, if you illegally gained access to the U.S., you should be returned, regardless of your country of origin.

Of course, I don’t disagree with that. I fully support any country securing its borders and exercising its right to deport undocumented individuals, and that includes the Dominican Republic. Every nation has immigration laws that must be respected and fulfilled.

Keeping in mind that unless you are a criminal alien you have the option of voluntarily returning to your home country, therefore permitting you to enter legally at any point. However, if you are departed there is a 10 year restriction.

I was under the impression that American politicians swear to uphold the laws of the country…I guess this woke individual prefers to brake them…

It is simple. Immigrating to ANY country requires compliance with the destination nation’s laws and regulations. The US is enforcing it’s immigration laws that have been on the books for decades. It is more visible due to the disregard for border integrity from our former president who wasn’t even making the decisions. He was only following instructions from the extreme left prior leaders. President Trump is not doing anything that other nations are doing. Enforce your immigration laws.
