Haitian police kill several gang members in armed clash

Port-au-Prince, (EFE).- Several members of the armed gang ‘Kraze Baryè,’ led by Vitelhomme Innocent, were killed during a confrontation with the Haitian National Police (PNH) in Dorco, Petion-Ville, authorities reported on Wednesday. The clash occurred on Tuesday, resulting in multiple casualties among gang members, though the exact number remains undisclosed. The PNH also seized a firearm and reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling armed groups across Haiti to restore security.

The operation took place amid growing outrage over the death of Lebelt Macenat, a student at the Centre for Diplomatic and International Studies (CEDI), who was fatally struck by a stray bullet while attending class in Port-au-Prince. The Presidential Transitional Council, led by Leslie Voltaire, condemned the violence and reiterated its resolve to reduce insecurity in the country. CEDI, shaken by the tragedy, announced a temporary suspension of activities.
