Dominican Republic inaugurates first artificial beach in La Paz, Bolivia

La Paz, Bolivia.- The Dominican Republic has introduced its Caribbean charm to the Andes with the inauguration of the first artificial beach in La Paz, Bolivia. Spearheaded by the Dominican embassy, the initiative aims to share the country’s tourism, culture, and joyful spirit in a city over 3,600 meters above sea level. Ambassador Claudio Marte emphasized that the project reflects the Dominican essence and strengthens the 123-year-old diplomatic ties between both nations.

The event brought together diplomatic officials, military attachés, government representatives, and Dominican community members in Bolivia. Marte highlighted recent milestones in bilateral relations, particularly in the four years since the Dominican embassy was established in La Paz, including the elimination of visa requirements for Dominicans. The occasion also served to celebrate the Dominican Republic’s tourism achievements, notably its success at FITUR 2025 in Madrid, where it was awarded Best Stand for the second time. Investment agreements totaling US$6,750 million were secured, facilitating 7,400 new hotel rooms, an additional 713,000 tourists, and 47,800 new jobs. Agreements with major airlines will also add 500,000 new seats to improve connectivity.

The inauguration was a lively cultural celebration, featuring merengue and Caribbean music performed by musicians from Cuba and Venezuela, as well as Dominican cuisine and cocktails. The event not only strengthened the Dominican presence in Bolivia but also reinforced the nation’s global commitment to promoting its tourism and cultural heritage, bringing a taste of the Caribbean to the heart of the Andes.
