Dominican Republic showcases film potential at SANFIC Industria 2025 in Chile

Chile.- The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Chile and the General Directorate of Film (DGCINE) are set to highlight the country’s growing role as a leading audiovisual hub in Latin America during SANFIC Industria 2025, to be held on August 20 in Santiago, Chile.

In preparation for the event, Ambassador Juan Cohen and DGCINE Director Marianna Vargas Gurilieva reaffirmed their joint commitment to promoting Dominican cinema and encouraging co-productions between both nations. “The Dominican Republic and Chile are a perfect match in the film industry,” said Cohen, emphasizing shared values, storytelling, and cultural vision.

A key moment at SANFIC will be the panel titled “Dominican Republic: Advantages and Experiences as a Co-Production Partner”, where industry leaders will present the country’s appeal for film projects. Highlights include a supportive legal framework, tax incentives under the Film Law, a rebate mechanism for foreign investment, expanding infrastructure, and a diversity of natural filming locations.

Two Dominican productions, La Casa de Mamá and Brujas de la Isla, have been selected to participate in the SANFIC Industria program, positioning them for greater international exposure. The Dominican presence is further supported by Ron Barceló, which will host a cultural networking event to promote Caribbean heritage and industry connections.

This initiative is part of the broader strategy for the internationalization of Dominican cinema, supported by a collaboration agreement between DGCINE and Arajet to enhance air connectivity for regional audiovisual integration.
