Endangered parrotfish turns boats into works of art
Montecristi, Dominican Republic.- Various entities on Sun. launched an effort to transform dozens of boats owned by the fishermen of Estero Balsa into works of art, inspired by the colors, shapes and textures of the varieties of parrotfish found in the waters of the Caribbean and face the risk of extinction.
The effort by the Environment and Tourism ministries counts on the support of the UN Development Program (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), through the Coastal Biodiversity and Tourism project (BCYT).
This initiative promotes a field day of awareness that has as a central topic the collaboration of the Spanish collective Boa Mistura.
