Authorities confirm probe into email hacking of top officials, moguls

Santo Domingo.- The authorities yesterday confirmed an investigation into the hacking of emails of the First Lady Margarita Cedeño, several ministers and tycoons, by the use of sophisticated equipment to tap phone calls and other communications.

Justice minister Radhamés Jiménez said yesterday that espionage case last name Gomez, a Dominican woman and a of India nation figure among the top suspects of the Police and the National Investigations Department (DNI) “technical” investigators.

“That investigation is still in the hands of the primary agencies and the Justice Ministry hasn’t taken part in them, but it will in due time,” said official said in the National Palace.

Jiménez and DNI director Ramon Aquino went to the National Palace Thursday night to inform president Leonel Fernandez on the probe launched to apprehend the suspects

Aquino had left after the meeting lasting more than one hour, but when he was about to board his vehicle in the National Palace, was seen talking on his cell phone, and ten returned to the President’s office.
