Amid email cracking probe, Fernandez meets with top officials, banker

Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez met with the president of the country’s biggest bank and with the heads of law enforcement agencies in the National Palace Tuesday night, just days after the launch of an investigation into the cracking of the email accounts of the First Lady, and of that banker’s wife.

Starting 8pm the chief executive received National Police chief Jose A. Polanco, Justice minister Radhames Jimenez, National Drugs Control Agency president Rolando Rosado, and Popular banker president Manuel A. Grullon.

None of the officers or the banker, or senior officials divulged what the meeting was about, but the media report that it was likely conducted separately/

Although Jimenez tried to avoid reporters, when pressed affirmed that the meeting was routine work.

Grullon left after 10pm and said it was a courtesy visit, and declined comment when asked about the Popular bank’s alleged funding of the campaign of vice presidential candidate ruling PLD party and First Lady Margarita Cedeño.

The probe aims to determine of the cracking of the email accounts of Cedeño, and of Grullon’s wife, Rosa Hernandez, Dominican representative in UNESCO.
