US, Dominican ships nab more than 1,000 Ks of cocaine at sea

SANTO DOMINGO.- The US Coast Guard and Dominican Navy yesterday seized more than 1,000 kilos of cocaine on the high seas, headed to Puerto Rico.

Dominican authorities arrested Four Colombians aboard the speedboat carrying the cocaine and were handed over to Puerto Rico agents.

The drug was in 20 packages aboard the Puerto Rico registry boat.

The operation was reportedly uncovered after an investigation by Dominican and US authorities and comes just days after the two countries seized an additional 66 kilos of cocaine also headed to Puerto Rico.

US and Dominican antinarcotics authorities have heightened operations against drug traffickers with intelligence gathering and the use of the “Predator” unmanned aircraft.
