US Ambassador urges end to Electoral Board Informatics chief flap

SANTO DOMINGO. – United States ambassador Raul Yzaguirre today urged for an understanding in the conflict over the PRD party’s rejection of the Electoral Central Board’s Informatics chief.

Talking to reporters in Dominican Republic’s State University (UASD), the diplomat said those problems surface in all countries, including the United States.

In that regard, Yzaguirre said Washington would be willing to send its technicians to the JCE, but affirmed since it’s an internal problem, it’s up to Dominican Republic to solve it, adding that what’s most important is to bolster democracy.

In that regard, the U.S. Ambassador added that Dominican Republic has a "living" democracy with transparent elections, and that it’s normal for some disgruntling to occur prior to electoral processes. "It’s a stable democracy, already mature, where the elections are reliable; there’ve been no serious misfortunes.”
