Dominican Republic’s political parties to pact against violent crimes

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s ruling PLD, and opposition PRD parties will sign a pact against crime and violence, the former’s general secretary Reinaldo Pared announced Tuesday, accepting PRD president Miguel Vargas’ proposal made Sunday.

Pared said such agreement is a good opportunity to ensure public safety. "I’ve been authorized by the party leadership, in my capacity as general secretary, and on behalf of the PLD, to express our support and backing to the proposal made ??by PRD President Miguel Vargas."

Vargas said the proposal would recover the tranquility and return the confidence to Dominicans and visitors.

Pared, interviewed in the Senate, said he personally and on behalf of PLD agrees with Vargas’s suggestion, calling it a good opportunity for the government, which has been working on the issue, to the point of proposing a police reform.

"I also believe that this is an opportunity to invite Danilo Medina’s Administration on the possibility to accept the proposal of the PRD President, because I think that this is a golden opportunity for the government itself, since the study of the police reform has been announced," Pared said.
