Cost of living identified as Dominican Republic’s primary concern

Santo Domingo.- Legislators from various factions concur with the recent findings of the Mark Penn Stagwell survey, which highlight the cost of living as the primary concern facing the nation, particularly among women.

Crime and unemployment also rank high among the issues plaguing Dominican society, according to respondents surveyed by the pollster.

Opposition legislators interpret the results of the Mark Penn survey as a reflection of the challenges experienced in the country, particularly regarding the high cost of the basic family necessities.

According to the survey, 36% of respondents identify the cost of living and inflation as the foremost challenges facing Dominicans today, followed closely by crime and citizen insecurity, which are perceived by 32% of those polled. Unemployment is cited as the third most pressing issue by 11% of respondents.

The need to manage Haitian migration ranks fourth in concerns, albeit with only 4% of respondents highlighting it as a significant problem. Other issues such as corruption, education, access to clean water, low wages, and power outages received minimal mention.

Among independents, the cost of living and crime are equally cited at 32%.

The survey also touched on the upcoming elections, with 79% of respondents expressing their intention to vote. This sentiment is particularly strong among men and older individuals.
