Abinader swears in for 4 more years with the promise of deepening the fight against corruption
Santo Domingo – Luis Abinader was sworn in for a second four-year presidential term with the promise of deepening corruption prevention and transparency in managing state resources.
On August 16, the Dominican Republic celebrates the 161st anniversary of its Restoration. President Abinader began his speech by thanking the Dominican people for trusting him for four more years.
“I assume with humility, pride and commitment the sacred responsibility that the Dominican people grant me for the second time. I am deeply honored to take the oath, after an exemplary electoral process in which Dominicans freely expressed their will and demonstrated once again the democratic maturity that we have reached as a nation.”
Regarding the fight against corruption, the president said that the national project that he heads and will continue to deepen in these four years has an open and integrating character and the participation of all to achieve a future of prosperity, freedoms, and social justice for the Dominican people.
“This government is the result of a democratic vocation, which since its inception has been fighting decisively for the good use of public funds and that is incompatible with corruption. I want to emphasize that we are going to deepen our actions to prevent corruption and for transparency to continue protecting the people’s money.”
He stressed that four years ago, he proposed to govern through dialogue, which would be open to all and promote the independence and autonomy of the state’s different powers.
“Respect for the rule of law was one of the strongest commitments I made to Dominicans when I took office as president in 2020. I gave them my word and I have kept it.”
Democracy
Abinader said that the Dominican Republic has achieved an important role among the region’s countries due to the stability and “good health that our democracy enjoys, as well as the economic dynamism and the great opportunities that exist here for companies and investment.”
Since his arrival in government, he began working to achieve the country’s desired transformations.
