Abinader predicts 11.5 million visitors for the year

Santo Domingo.- In his second-term inauguration speech on August 16, President Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic highlighted the country’s tourism achievements and future prospects. He announced that the Dominican Republic is set to surpass 11.5 million visitors by the end of 2024, following a record-breaking 10 million visitors in 2023. This surge solidifies the Dominican Republic as the second most visited country in Latin America.

The president emphasized the government’s ongoing infrastructure investments, which are enhancing the country’s connectivity and logistical capabilities. He highlighted the construction of two new tourist ports, with three more underway through public-private partnerships, as well as the development of a large multimodal logistics dock in Manzanillo.

Additionally, Abinader mentioned significant expansions at major airports, including the doubling of facilities at Punta Cana Airport, the upcoming construction of Terminal 2 at Santo Domingo Airport, and new terminals at Santiago Airport and the future Pedernales International Airport.
