Port Cabo Rojo to inaugurate phase 2 in October

Santo Domingo.- Jean Luis Rodríguez, the executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM), announced that Port Cabo Rojo in Pedernales is set to welcome its third cruise ship in October and will inaugurate phase 2, featuring new attractions. These efforts aim to reach the goal of attracting 150,000 cruise passengers for the 2025 cruise season.

Rodríguez emphasized that Cabo Rojo is an emerging destination, noting that the Dominican Republic received nearly 2.3 million cruise passengers last year. He highlighted the port’s successful presentation at Seatrade, the leading cruise fair in Florida, and mentioned plans to promote it at a similar event in Europe to attract more cruise lines.

By the end of this year, Port Cabo Rojo is expected to have welcomed 20,000 tourists, a significant milestone for a new destination. Rodríguez projected even higher visitor numbers for next year, based on confirmed cruise ship schedules. He expressed confidence in the country’s performance in attracting cruise passengers, predicting that the Dominican Republic will close 2023 with 2.3 million visitors and surpass 3 million in 2024, largely due to the success of ports like Taíno Bay and Cabo Rojo.
