Dominican National Police to receive digital literacy training

Santo Domingo.- The National Institute of Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP) and the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL) have signed an agreement to implement a digital literacy program for members of the Dominican National Police.

The initiative aims to equip 400 officers stationed in 63 police stations across Greater Santo Domingo and the southern region with the digital skills necessary to effectively carry out their duties in the 21st century.

INFOTEP Director General Rafael Santos Badía emphasized that this training program is part of the government’s broader efforts to reform the National Police and strengthen the country’s security system. “This program aligns with President Luis Abinader’s commitment to universal access to information and communication technologies,” said Santos Badía.

Guido Gómez Mazara, President of the INDOTEL Board of Directors, expressed confidence that this initiative will modernize the police force and improve its ability to serve the public: “We will have a modern, respectful police force that guarantees the rights of citizens.”

The training program will cover a wide range of topics, including digital skills, information systems, cybersecurity, and soft skills. By the end of the program, participants are expected to have acquired the competencies needed to enhance their performance and contribute to the economic development of their communities.

The agreement between INFOTEP and INDOTEL outlines the responsibilities of each institution. The Ministry of Interior and Police will provide logistical support, while INDOTEL will supply the necessary technology and connectivity resources. The training will be delivered by INFOTEP over a two-year period.

This partnership marks a significant step forward in the Dominican Republic’s efforts to modernize its law enforcement agencies and harness the power of technology to improve public safety.
