Swedish Ambassador advocates for sustainable mining in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- Swedish Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Hanna Lambert, highlighted Sweden’s long-standing history as a mining leader, with over 1,000 years of experience and more than 3,000 mines contributing to its economic and social development. Speaking at the seminar “Sustainability in Mining: Swedish Practices and Regional Experiences,” Lambert urged the Dominican Republic to adopt sustainable mining practices to harness its natural resources responsibly for national progress.

Lambert emphasized that Sweden’s prosperity stems from mining revenues and job creation, balanced with environmental stewardship. She showcased Sweden as a model for integrating cutting-edge technology and energy-efficient practices to minimize environmental impact, aligning with the principles of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. Swedish companies’ commitment to sustainability was presented as a blueprint for promoting economic growth while protecting local communities and ecosystems.

The seminar featured Henrik Hallgren, a sustainable mining expert from the International Council of Swedish Industry, who shared strategies for embedding sustainability in mining projects. The initiative reinforced Sweden’s dedication to fostering responsible practices in the mining sector, demonstrating how mining can drive long-term benefits for both the economy and the environment.
