BHD Financial Center companies join the Guardianes de la Academia Trust

Santo Domingo.- The BHD Financial Center has announced that five of its companies will join the Guardianes de la Academia trust, a pioneering initiative in the Dominican Republic aimed at providing university scholarships to academically gifted but financially disadvantaged students. The companies—MAPFRE República Dominicana, AFP Siembra, BHD International Bank, BHD Puesto de Bolsa, and BHD Fondos—are contributing to the self-sustaining philanthropic trust, which was initially established by the BHD Foundation.

Luis Molina Achécar, president of BHD Financial Center, highlighted the organization’s commitment to human development through education. Each company has pledged US$10,000 annually for five years, totaling US$50,000 per company. This fund will contribute to scholarships, research, and infrastructure investments at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), aimed at supporting over 200 students in need.

Guardianes de la Academia, created in September 2023 through a partnership between the Madre y Maestra Foundation and Fiduciaria BHD, is designed to ensure ongoing support for students from vulnerable backgrounds. The trust will be primarily funded by donations from individuals, companies, and institutions dedicated to advancing higher education in the country. Mercedes Carmen Capellán de Lama, president of the Madre y Maestra Foundation, expressed gratitude for the BHD Financial Center’s crucial role in ensuring the sustainability of this scholarship program.
