Grocers fail to comply with Pro Consumidor regulation despite deadline
Santo Domingo.- Despite the extended deadline by Pro Consumidor, some grocery stores in the capital have failed to comply with the regulation to cover water bottles, exposing plastic containers to sunlight and risking consumer health. The measure, introduced last July, aims to prevent toxins from overheating bottles contaminating the water.
While some businesses have adapted by using mesh, tarps, or indoor storage, others cite ignorance or implementation challenges. Pro Consumidor has granted two extensions, providing ample time for compliance, but non-adherence persists in certain areas.
The agency announced inspections to enforce the rule, warning that violators could face fines or temporary closures. This initiative seeks to safeguard public health by ensuring purified water remains uncontaminated, urging merchants to prioritize compliance for the community’s well-being.
