Punta Cana Airport projects 8% growth in tourism by 2025

Punta Cana.- Punta Cana International Airport, the busiest air terminal in the Dominican Republic with an average of 4.8 million passengers annually, anticipates up to an 8% increase in traveler arrivals by 2025, according to Frank Rainieri, founder and chairman of the Puntacana Group. The airport accounts for 70% of tourist arrivals to the country, significantly impacting the region’s tourism flow.

Rainieri emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to sustain the tourism industry’s growth. “Tourism is not just about hoteliers or governments. We must all work together to ensure social peace and a welcoming environment for visitors,” he stated. In November alone, the airport welcomed 407,748 tourists, representing 61% of the total 667,045 arrivals, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

Acknowledging the Dominican Republic’s strong position as a tourism leader in Latin America, Rainieri highlighted opportunities stemming from challenges in competing Caribbean destinations. He also praised the close partnership between the public and private sectors in developing new tourist areas, noting that collaborative decision-making has been key to the industry’s continued success.

I’ve flown to DR through las Americas many times and Punta Cana was very nice, and very clean and I enjoyed it. But living in US I got used to airports here. They need to do a couple of things to make it better. Like one organize the taxi drivers and shuttle buses more… when I got there the attendant was nowhere to be found and then they were like “you took too long so I took break.” Going through the shuttle area it seemed very messy.

Like the buses that travel fifty feet are very dumb… they need to do the jet bridges or whatever they are called.

Additionally, it would be nice if they expanded shopping options throughout the airport. It is not a big deal, but if they are going to double patronage, they need larger space. It felt very crowded in all the halls.

Either way, I enjoyed it.

Sorry but PUJ airport is the most stressed airport i’ve ever seen. To much noise, announcements can’t be heard, restrooms are awful.
My vacation don’t stop at the arrival at home but ends at PUJ airport !
