Abinader and former presidents to discuss Haitian crisis today
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader is meeting today, Wednesday, May 14, with former presidents Hipólito Mejía, Leonel Fernández, and Danilo Medina to address the deepening crisis in neighboring Haiti.
The meeting focuses on Haiti’s institutional collapse and its direct impact on Dominican national security and migration. Officials will also evaluate the national and international response to the crisis and consider mechanisms for ongoing coordination and consultation.
Joining the discussion are senior government leaders, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense, the Army Commander, and the heads of the National Department of Investigation (DNI), Immigration, and the Dominican Embassy in Haiti. They will present a comprehensive overview of the situation and the actions taken by the Dominican government.
The Presidency has emphasized that the meeting is exclusively dedicated to the Haitian crisis, with no intention to address domestic political issues or proposals.
