Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic expressed his deep sorrow on Tuesday following the death of former Uruguayan President José “Pepe” Mujica, describing him as a moral and human beacon in Latin America.

Abinader shared his personal admiration for Mujica, recalling the honor of meeting him and learning from his wisdom and humility. Through a message on social media, the Dominican president extended his condolences to Mujica’s family, the Uruguayan people, and all of Latin America, who, he said, are bidding farewell to a significant figure.

Mujica passed away on Tuesday afternoon in Montevideo, Uruguay, at the age of 89, following a battle with a malignant tumor discovered in his esophagus.
