Abinader, Leonel, Danilo, and Hipólito unite on four-point national policy for Haiti
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader met with former presidents Leonel Fernández, Hipólito Mejía, and Danilo Medina to form a common front in response to the deepening crisis in neighboring Haiti. The two-hour meeting, held at the Ministry of Defense, focused on security, migration, and economic threats posed by the Haitian situation. Senior government officials, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense, participated in the dialogue, which was described as open, respectful, and patriotic.
After a detailed technical briefing, the leaders held a closed-door session to define strategic measures and establish mechanisms for cooperation. Four key agreements emerged: creation of joint working groups to develop national policy on Haiti, convening of the Economic and Social Council with all four leaders, periodic national security briefings to former presidents, and coordination of a unified foreign policy.
The participants acknowledged Haiti’s critical instability—marked by lack of governance, armed gang control, and humanitarian collapse. They recognized the Dominican Republic’s international diplomatic efforts and supported ongoing border security initiatives, including the construction of a smart fence and investment in border region development. On immigration, they reaffirmed the country’s right to enforce its laws with respect for human rights and stressed that resolving the Haitian crisis requires international action within Haitian territory.

how about reafirming the closure of the border and doing business with others instead of this failed state?
