Dominican Ministry of Defense bans armed soldiers from alcohol-serving establishments
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Ministry of Defense has issued a directive prohibiting military personnel—whether in uniform or plainclothes—from carrying firearms when visiting establishments that sell alcoholic beverages. This includes bars, nightclubs, grocery stores, and similar venues, regardless of whether the individual is on or off duty.
Circular No. 6-2025, signed by Minister Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, aims to promote responsible conduct and reduce risks associated with alcohol consumption in public spaces. It builds upon a 2006 regulation, expanding its scope to address overall behavior, media presence, and social media use by members of the Armed Forces.
The regulation also prohibits inappropriate attire, language, or behavior that may misrepresent the institution’s values. Social media posts that conflict with military ethics and discipline are discouraged. Official communications related to Armed Forces activities are limited to authorized personnel only.
Noncompliance will be treated as a serious offense under military disciplinary rules. The circular must be read aloud and visibly posted in all military facilities across land, air, and naval branches. It overrides any previous conflicting administrative orders.

This is nonsense… and who enforces the ban? Oh, they are going to self-enforce.
