Santiago to attempt Guinness Record for world’s largest mofongo

Santiago de los Caballeros.- Santiago is gearing up to make culinary history on July 26, 2025, with an official attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the largest mofongo ever made. The announcement was made during a press conference at Amigos restaurant, which will also serve as a key preparation site for the event.

Eligio Reyes, general producer of the project and commercial director of SMA Group—previously responsible for the record-breaking “world’s largest Majarete” in Cotuí—is leading this new effort. The goal is to elevate Santiago’s profile on the global gastronomic stage.

Communicator Brenda Sánchez hosted the event, which featured representatives from FEDOCÁMARA, the Santiago Governor’s Office, the City Council, and the Ministry of Culture. Project creator Clara Olivo, also founder of Santiago Inspira, emphasized her vision of a creative and globally connected city fueled by its culinary traditions.

The event is backed by several companies and organizations committed to promoting Santiago’s cultural heritage and international recognition through this ambitious gastronomic challenge.
