Chinese businessman arrested after interfering with immigration operation
Santo Domingo.- Chinese businessman Po Xie, legal representative of the Mudan store on Duarte Avenue, was arrested following a warrant issued by the National District’s Investigating Judge. The arrest stems from a complaint filed by the General Directorate of Immigration (DGM), alleging that Po Xie obstructed an immigration raid and assaulted officials during an operation on May 28.

DGM intelligence agents apprehended Po Xie in the Villa Consuelo sector without resistance. He was processed at DGM headquarters before being handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The charges include obstruction of immigration enforcement and assaulting public officials, in violation of Dominican criminal and immigration laws.
The incident occurred during a DGM-led raid supported by the Armed Forces and National Police, which resulted in the detention of 35 Haitian nationals working illegally. The Mudan store was also fined RD$450,000 for repeated violations related to hiring undocumented foreign workers. The fine, issued under Law No. 285-04, has already been paid by company officials.

The fine is not enough, it’s a prize for doing business if it’s that low. The laws in the country are already a joke, and yet they are never properly enforced. When they are, we get this embarrassment of “justice”. The business should have been closed yesterday, and this guy should have been facing real time for trafficking and hiring illegal immigrants in an attempt to avoid fair labor payment and working rights that all Dominicans are entitled to. These are the people who are destroying the middle class and stagnating wages because they are depending on illegal, slave like labor to do any work in most sectors of the country. We have to punish the businesses that work this way. It’s only fair to finally prioritize the Dominican worker and get this chaos under control.
lol… the business simply didn’t pay the right person off. The government is very corrupt and certainly at that level.
