35% of Dominicans traveled within the country in the past year

Santo Domingo.- According to the First National Survey of Domestic Tourism (ENTÍ 2025), 35.1% of Dominican adults took at least one trip within the country over the past 12 months. Of those travelers, 30.5% spent more than RD$10,000 per person, primarily on vacations, family visits, and work-related trips. The study was conducted by the Center for Tourism Studies and Local Development (Cetdel) and Quantum Analytics, with support from the Ibero-American University (Unibe).

Despite its economic and cultural potential, domestic tourism remains underdeveloped. Economist Huáscar Jiménez, executive director of Cetdel, emphasized the need to diversify tourism offerings, strengthen regional infrastructure and connectivity, promote community involvement, and launch targeted awareness campaigns. He also highlighted the lack of support from local authorities and the importance of involving municipalities in facilitating tourism projects.

The survey revealed that most domestic travelers are between 25 and 39 years old, with men making up 57.7% of travelers. While the Dominican Republic’s participation rate aligns with regional standards (30–40%), 64.9% of adults did not travel, signaling the need to include more segments of the population. Most trips were for vacations (46.2%), family visits (27.9%), and work (22.7%), with accommodations split between family homes (40.2%) and hotels (37%). Quantum Analytics President Mayjo Gutiérrez noted that while local tourism is mostly low-cost and socially driven, it has significant community value and economic potential.
