Dominican nationals arrested for US extradition in joint drug operation
Mao, DR.- Two Dominican citizens, Ricardo Cruz Ortiz and Jensy Cruz Ortiz, were arrested Friday in a coordinated operation by the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), the Office of the Attorney General, and U.S. Marshals. Both men face extradition to New York, where they stand accused of second-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance under Section 220 of the state’s Penal Code.
The Ortiz cousins were apprehended in Cruce de Guayacanes, in Mao, Valverde province, following intelligence-led raids authorized by the Dominican Supreme Court. Law enforcement officials said the operation reflects intensified efforts to track and detain fugitives wanted on international drug-trafficking charges.
“Those in custody are now under judicial control as we prepare the required extradition paperwork,” a DNCD spokesperson stated. The arrests underscore the Dominican government’s commitment to strengthen cooperation with allied nations in combating transnational organized crime.
Observers note that recent joint actions with U.S. authorities have disrupted multiple trafficking networks. As Cruz Ortiz and Cruz Ortiz await formal extradition proceedings, Dominican officials reaffirm their pledge to pursue drug traffickers regardless of borders.
