Dominican Republic launches reconstruction of Anacaona Park in Constanza to boost ecotourism

Constanza, DR.- The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism has launched the reconstruction of Anacaona Park in Constanza, a project valued at RD$23.4 million (approximately US$400,000), as part of the government’s strategy to strengthen ecotourism in the central mountain town.

Tourism Minister David Collado led the groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, highlighting the community impact of the project. “Besides addressing a long-standing demand from the people of Constanza, this renovation will stimulate the local economy and serve as a major attraction for both residents and visitors,” Collado said.

The renovation of the central park, located at the heart of Constanza, will cover more than 5,000 square meters and includes a new wooden-floor gazebo, concrete benches, landscaped walkways, accessibility ramps, handrails, lighting, trash bins, and even a bird aviary. Plans also call for the improvement of sidewalks, stairways, and interior paths made from local stone and tile.

As part of the broader intervention in the town’s historic core, Collado also announced the refurbishment of the nearby Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes Church, located directly across from the park.

The project will be carried out by the Committee for the Execution of Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR), an agency under the Tourism Ministry. Authorities stressed that the initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to sustainable tourism development, offering both ecological and cultural value to a destination known for its cool climate, fertile valleys, and natural beauty.

The ceremony was attended by provincial and municipal leaders, as well as local business representatives and stakeholders in the tourism sector, underscoring the project’s significance for Constanza’s long-term development.
