David Collado inaugurates reconstructed Caleta pier to boost tourism in La Romana
La Romana.- Tourism Minister David Collado inaugurated the reconstruction of the Caleta pier in La Romana, as part of a broader urban renewal plan to boost tourism and community development in the area. The project, carried out through the Tourism Zone Infrastructure Committee (CEIZTUR), represents an investment of RD$34.4 million and aims to strengthen excursion services and maritime tourism.
The new pier, designed for small boats and catamarans, will serve as a key docking point for tours to Catalina Island and other coastal attractions. Collado emphasized that the project responds to a long-standing community demand and will generate new economic opportunities by revitalizing Caleta’s coastal zone. “This type of project directly impacts local economies and helps communities thrive through tourism,” he said.
The pier spans 30.92 meters in length and 3 meters in width, featuring a walkway with railings, lighting, and docking capacity for eight catamarans or eleven smaller boats. A 32-meter footpath-style walkway was also built, and dredging work improved the beach area by removing and reusing over 350 cubic meters of sand to restore the shoreline.
