Adompretur congratulates Tourism Minister David Collado on UN Tourism recognition

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Tourism Press Association (Adompretur) congratulated Tourism Minister David Collado for being honored by UN Tourism, a United Nations–affiliated agency, with the title of “Minister of the Americas”—a distinction granted for the first time to a regional minister.

Adompretur president Sarah Hernández praised Collado’s leadership, noting that the Dominican Republic has welcomed over 40 million visitors in the past five years, breaking historic records and consolidating its position as the top destination in the Caribbean and third in the Americas, after the United States and Canada. She highlighted his effective coordination between the public and private sectors, improvements in tourism infrastructure, and diversification of the national offering under President Luis Abinader’s vision.

The award, presented by UN Tourism Executive Secretary Natalia Bayona, recognizes Collado’s role in promoting tourism as a pillar of economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability since 2020. Hernández announced that Adompretur and the UN Tourism delegation will hold a meeting this Thursday to discuss the country’s continued progress in the global tourism industry.
