Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic achieved record cocoa exports in the 2024–2025 harvest year, exporting 77,453.6 metric tons valued at US$692.5 million, a 25% increase compared to the previous period, which closed with 61,877.11 metric tons worth US$422.8 million. This represents an additional US$269.7 million in export revenue over the previous year.

According to a report from the National Cocoa Commission, sent to Agriculture Minister Limber Cruz by Executive Director Víctor Hidalgo, the sector’s strong performance was driven by unprecedented international prices, reaching as high as US$12,500 per metric ton, with an annual average of US$8,925.12 per ton. This surge encouraged producers to reinvest in plantations, adopt improved cultivation practices, and strengthen pest control and harvesting techniques.

The report also highlights a 46% rise in organic cocoa exports, which grew from 25,416.70 to 37,140.64 metric tons. The average export price more than doubled, increasing 225% from US$4,163.95 to US$9,376.84 per metric ton. These results, the Commission noted, reflect not only favorable market conditions but also the impact of initiatives developed jointly by the Cocoa Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture’s Cocoa Department, aimed at strengthening the sector’s sustainability and productivity.
