Dominican agents halt 145 Haitians at border on surging migrant wave

Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- Dominican Border Security (Cesfront) agents arrested 145 Haitians including 14 children, trying to enter Dominican territory, the latest in a series of detentions of an mounting number of undocumented migrants.

The Haitians arrested were hiding in the mountains near the towns of Palo Blanco, Los Arroyos, La Vigia and other areas where they tried to enter dominican territory, to then head to major cities and farms.

Cesfront patrols also detained other illegal aliens in the streets of Dajabón, as they were leaving the homes where they hid over night.

All detainees were taken on Cesfront trucks to the Dajabon border crossing and handed over to immigration authorities for repatriation.

According to Dajabón media, civil society lauds the actions taken by Immigration Agency officials in the streets, roads and bus stops to put a halt to the wave of undocumented Haitians, and have even called for tougher measures at the border.
