Dominican officials to work overtime as aliens flood govt. offices

Santo Domingo.- The Interior and Police Ministry’s 24 offices processing papers for the government’s effort to regularize aliens will be open from 8am to 7pm, including next Saturday and Sunday, to deal with the mounting numbers of mostly Haitian nationals who request a legal immigrant status.

The government agency said the extended hours will continue until June 17, the date in which the deadline issued to receive applications to legalize foreigners expires.

The announcement also comes in the heels of complaints by some offspring of Haitians parents, that some officials at the offices are demanding money to process their requests for documents.
