Haiti-Dominican border market normal as truckers´ strike enters10th day

Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- TheBinational market held Mondays and Fridays was normal today despite the continuedstrike of transport to Haiti by Dominican truckers, now entering its 10thday.

Dominica Republic´s biggest truckers union (Fenatrado) started the strikeon august 4 demanding security for drivers who haul cargo into Haiti, but Dominicanor Haitian authorities have yet to respond.

Fenatrado spokesman Giovanny Escotto said union truckers won’t ventureinto Haitian territory until they are guaranteed safety for drivers, their vehiclesand the freight. On Friday reports from Dajabón say the market was normal as hundredsof people crossed from both sides of the border, where Dominican are on highalert to prevent smuggling.
