Former slugger Sammy Sosa scammed out of 21.3M euros: report
Santo Domingo.- Former Major League slugger Sammy Sosa wasswindled out of 21.3 million euros by a Germanscouple which allegedly provided loans in the millions, outlet elnuevodiario.com.do reports.
The German spouses were arrested in their country and face trialbefore judge John Ballis, who’s “convinced of the of the couple’s guilt.”
Newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine reports that Sosa wasseeking funding to build housing projects in Panama, when he met the alleged scammers.
According to the court filing, the couple had allegedly promisedSosa to multiply his profits in 10 months and raise to 300 million eurosthrough numerous transactions.
Sosa reportedly fronted the 21.3 million euros to close thedeal in September 2014.
The accused man, 60, is a former stock trader who declared bankruptcyin 1987 after aggressively speculated with the New Zealand currency.
His wife meanwhile, is a 49 year-old mother of six, was previouslya civil servant and was recently a financial consultant.
