Dominican workers mark their day with a salary of misery

Santo Domingo.- Dominican workers on Mon. marked their day with a monthly minimum wage too low to cover the basic household costs, which the Central Bank sets at RD$29,000.

Salaries in the non-sectorized private sector range from RD$9,000 to RD$15,000, depending on the company’s net capital.

At the start of April the Central Bank said that it’s currently conducting the National Household Expenditure and Income Survey (ENGIH) 2018, to improve its macroeconomic statistics and provide reliable economic information for the decision-making by economic agents.

“The purpose of the survey is to gather statistical information throughout the national territory on the distribution of spending by Dominican families, as well as the amount and source of income of the population,” it said, adding that the poll forms part of that research.
