Customs appeals ruling on Web shopping tax

Santo Domingo.- The Customs Agency on Monday appealed the Superior Arbitration Court’s (TSA) ruling which orders it to desist from charging taxes on items bought online that cost less than US$200.

Customs’ lawyers filed the appeal at the Constitutional Court, which seeks to overturn the TSA ruling.

The National Commercial Businesses Organization (ONEC), the Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce, the National Importers Association (ANI) and National Business Union also filed an appeal against the TSA ruling.

Also the Dominican Textiles Associations of (Aditex), the Jeans Manufacturers (Asojean), the Duarte Av. Merchants (Asoduarte) and the Downtown Santiago Merchants (ACENSA), which also seek taxes on all online shopping regardless of value.
