Caribbean Export carries 7 Haitian agro-processors to Agroalimentaria Fair

Santo Domingo.- From May 7 to 9 Dominican producers and exporters, along with national and multinational companies in the sectors of food, beverages and tobacco will be gathered at the Agroalimentaria Fair in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Now in its 5th edition, this international trade show is recognised as the Caribbean’s leading platform in trade of agricultural and agro-processing products, from the freshest fruits, vegetables, condiments and spices, to coffees, cocoa, cigars, rum and beer. The fair presents to the world the best products from the

Dominican Republic and attracts buyers from around the world, from North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. This year products will be exhibited by five themes: Organic and Fair Trade, Gourmet, Health and Wellness, Technology and Services and Agribusiness Supplies.

Agroalimentaria’s main approach to the trade of agricultural goods is to set up B2B matchmaking sessions between local suppliers and international importers with the aim of making long lasting and profitable connections. In the last fair, which was conducted in 2013, 135 exhibitors participated and over 1,200 matchmaking sessions were held with over US$200 million in negotiated sales reported.

This year The Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) will be hosting a delegation of seven Haitian agro-processing companies to exhibit their products at the Agroalimentaria Fair within the framework of the Haiti/Dominican Republic Binational Programme, funded by the European Union under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).

The products being highlighted are jams and jellies; rum and liqueurs; seasonings; dairy beverages; beer; fresh fruit; chocolate and margarine. The companies that will be exhibiting their products are Associaton Nationale des Transformateurs de Friuts (ANATRAF), Berling SA (Rhum Vieux Labbé), Sunfood SA/Cannex SA (Groupe Coles), Brasserie Nationale d’Haiti (BRANA, makers of Prestige Beer), Carribex/SOGEPA, and Askanya Chocolate.
