Top official wants details on Barrick Gold deal with Dominican mine

Santo Domingo.- Energy and Mines minister Antonio Isa Conde onThursday asked Barrick Pueblo Viejo for official and accurate information onthe agreement for precious metals signed with its parent company Royal Gold forproduction linked to the mine near Cotuí (central).

He said Barrick holdsa partnership with the Dominican State through a long-term agreement over PuebloViejo "and it´s important to know if this pact affects this or not."

The official saidthe miner should also render a detailed report on whether this transaction withRoyal Gold affects income from the sale of gold and other metals, which are amajor source of revenue for the Dominican government.

Isa said as soonas the information from Barrick is received it will be shared with the public,adding that thus far, “all we know of the topic is based on the versionpublished by the press and by the Barrick Gold Corporation website in English.”
