Dominican Republic exports US$1.05B of gold in 3Q

Santo Domingo.-Dominican Republic´s gold production topped 1.13 million troy ounces in 2014,or 34.5% higher than last year; while silver totaled 4.1 million troy ounces, a63.3% jump over the previous year.

The National StatisticsOffice (ONE) on Thursday said in 2014 the country produced 289,274 more ounces goldthan in 2013, and 1,590,963 more ounces of silver in that year.

Exports

The ONE said preliminaryfigures reveal that of precious metal exports, gold totaled US$1.05 billion inthe third quarter, representing 16.5% of total exports.

It said gold paced preciousmetal exports with US$974.3 million (90.4% of total mining exports), mostly toCanada (US$506.7 million), followed by India, US$397.9 million and the UnitedStates, US$42.1 million.

As to non-preciousmetals, aluminum topped US$27.2 million (100% to China), copper ores US$21.5million (93.8% to China) and raw silver, US$11.8 million; 61.9% to Switzerlandand 37.8% to the United States.

The ONE adds that goldproduction exceeded 289,274 ounces and 1,590,963 ounces of silver last year,which also increased compared with 2013.
