Government opens agency to integrate Dominicans abroad

San Juan.- Dominican RepublicForeign minister Andrés Navarro on Sundayheaded ribbon cutting for the Dominicans Abroad Institute ´s (INDEX) firstoffice, in Puerto Rico´s capital, EFE reports.

The official alsovisited Mayaguez, a town on Puerto Rico´s west coast which many Dominicans callhome to explain INDEEX´s function to his compatriots.

Navarro said theInstitute forms part of president Danilo Medina´s new foreign policy aimed at helpingemigrants.

He stressed that thefirst office is aimed at protecting Dominicans abroad.

The official the INDEX integratesDominicans abroad with the development processes taking place in their country."I am here, in Puerto Rico, in the process to materialize a commitment fromour president Danilo Medina Sanchez, to establish an institutional mechanism tolet the government come closer to the Dominican community anywhere in the world."
