Injunction seeks to switch power plants from coal to natural gas

Santo Domingo.- Twoorganization on Monday filed for an injunction to convert the two coal-fired powerplants being built at Punta Catalina (south) to natural gas, as opposition tothe controversial project grows.

The National Committeeto Combat Climate Change and the Lawyers for Environmental Protection Institute(Insaproma) filed the request at the Superior Administrative Court´s 3rdChamber, which set a hearing for January 18.

The court action willlead to subpoenas of the State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE), the Executive Branch,the Environment Ministry and the Odebrecht-Tecnimont- Estrella constructiongroup, to prepare their defense.

The plaintiffs seek thePunta Catalina project to switch to natural gas as the power plant´s fuel.
