Dominican-Haiti border markers need replacing: Official

Santo Domingo.- DominicanRepublic wants to reestablish border markers with Haiti, uprooted by swelledrivers, while their various conditions have already been inventoried.

Foreign minister AndresNavarro on Wednesday said several rising lakes have made some border markers disappear,but would be replaced with the use of GPS, while in some cases Haitianauthorities will need to cooperate.

"Many of them canbe improved because they are in territory of our domain. Others are at points whichneed coordination with Haitian authorities," the official said

Navarro said howevertht many of the original markers placed as part of the Border Treaty signed in1929 are still in good condition.
