With 635 daily, container arrivals to Dominican ports jump 16%
Santo Domingo.- Morethan 268,700 containers arrived in Dominican Republic ports from abroad lastyear, a 16% jump compared with the 231,850 in 2014.
Dominican Republic ShippersAssociation (ANRD) president Teddy Heinsen said the figures show the substantialgrowth of imports in recent years.
Delivering the openingspeech of the entity´s luncheon, the business leader said the number of containersaverage 635 daily, over 365 days.
According to the CustomsAgency, 88.6% of imports enter Dominican Republic by sea, although it reported a2.3% decline during 2015, totaling US$17.2 billion, mostly from falling prices ofoil and derivatives.
In fact on Wednesday Customsdirector Fernando Fernandez said the import of non-oil products posted a jump of7.12 percent.
