‘Good things coming’ to Dominican Republic’s Southwest

Pedernales, Dominican Republic.- President Danilo Medina onWednesday announced several works to harness the southwestern province’s tourismpotential, but noted that he first win the May 15 elections at all levels.

The president and reelection candidate said despite the favorablepoll numbers, no one can claim victory, and reiterated his call to see out thevotes "even under rocks."

Medina said he will need Congress’ support for his plans todevelop the south region during the next four years, and asked sympathizers notto split their vote in any of the ballots.

He said several development projects are in the offing forPedernales and the entire region, which can expect times of progress in thenear future.

“Good things are coming to Pedernales," Medina said, andannounced the construction of a seaside promenade, an area for ??fishermen, anaqueduct wastewater treatment plants, and the expansion of Cabo Rojo Airport, startingin the next two months.

Medina spoke at a rally to support the reelection bid of rulingPLD party senator Dionis Sanchez.

Cement plant

The President drew applause when he announced that the CementoAndino cement plant will continue to operate in the area after mogul PepinCorripio acquired it, remaining as the region’s main sources of jobs with morethan 700.
