Arrival of the 2nd of 2 turbines for coal-fired plant in Bani imminent

Santo Domingo.- Either this weekend or early next week willarrive in the country the second turbine of the coal-fired power plant being builtin Punta Catalina, Baní (south), while the second disbursement from theDeutsche Bank is expected during April.

Quoted by hoy.com.do, Punta Catalina technical project coordinatorPablo Rivas called the statements denouncing problems with disbursements forthe plant’s construction "noise".

He said the funds received by the bank have been possiblebecause they’ve complied with the required commitments.

For his part, State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE) TechnicalProject director Radhames del Carmen said US$200 million has already been accreditedand expects to receive a US$70 million payment in the coming days, for a totalof US$ 656 million from Deutsche Bank Spa, which heads a pool of German, Spanishand English banks which finance the plant.

They added that the arrival of the second of the plant’s twoturbines means that all major equipment required for its construction are complete.
