US$12.6M in works at Las Americas highway ready in 9 days

Santo Domingo.- The government will open the overpass at theLas Americas highway exit to Caucedo Port on April 28, built at a cost of US$12.6million by contractors Rizek and Moya.

Raul Rizek and Diego Hugo De Moya said the overpass is 77 meters long, with a 500-meter ramp.

In a visit to newspaper Listin Diario, the contractors saidhigh technology such as a system of reinforced earthen walls was used in theconstruction, stressing that 100 percent of their workers are Dominican.

The overpass near Caucedo is the first of several beingbuilt over Las Americas highway, from the airport of the same name through thebeach town Boca Chica.

Rizek said work advances on the four pedestrian bridges at BocaChica, where two turn-arounds are also ready. He said one of the overpasses at BocaChica will be finished in September.

Moya said the three major overpasses will be ready by yearend,and include lighting and anticorrosion posts.
