Public safety, macroeconomic stability top Medina’s focus in next term

Santo Domingo.- PresidencyAdministrative minister Jose Ramon Peralta on Tuesday said in his next term presidentDanilo Medina will focus on four key areas: public safety, maintainingmacroeconomic stability, boosting the water sector and the Digital Republic.

"He will continue the (surprise) visits because that’sthe direct contact with people," the official said, and acknowledged thatcrime is the issue which most concerns Dominicans and affects their lives.

“That’s why President Medina has that among his prioritiesfor the next term. Common crime hasn’t stopped appearing on the streets, whichis the theft of mobile phones, muggings, and that’s what affects mostcitizens," he said.

He stressed that the government has been taken measuressuch as joint patrols and equipping the police and the 911 security cameras.

The official said they’ve also improved the livingconditions of police officers with health insurance and a wage increase, butacknowledged that it’s still not enough.

Peralta said establishing the Police bylaw of the weaponslaw also figure among Medina’s priorities.
