IMF lauds Dominican Republic for settling US$1.7B debt

Santo “Domingo.- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) onThursday congratulated Dominican Republic for paying the pending credit, which itattributes to the "the country’s remarkable progress" attained under presidentDanilo Medina’s leadership.
Moreover, the IMF, whose latest financing with theDominican Republic was around US$1.7 billion, said it’s ready to continueworking with the government on "economic issues that are important"for the country.
The IMF’s statement are in a letter from Western HemisphereDept. director Alejandro Werner, to Medina, dated July 26, sent from itsWashington headquarters.
"It’s a pleasure to congratulate you on the payment ofthe outstanding credit with the IMF by the Dominican Republic on July 19,2016," Werner says in the missive.
